Warning Signs

The only way to know if a person is suicidal is by directly asking the individual, “Are you thinking of suicide?” There are warning signs to look for, though any unexplained changes in appearance behaviour or emotion including:

  • Threats of suicide or talking about wanting to die
  • Loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities
  • Isolating self from family and friends
  • Increased use of alcohol or drugs
  • Giving away valued possessions
  • Increased risky behaviors
  • Poorer school performance (lower marks, not doing duties, skipping classes)
  • Changes in eating and sleeping patterns
  • Feelings of sadness for a long period of time
  • Negative statements about life or self

Important: not everybody will exhibit all of the signs. Knowing about the signals is a tool that you recognize that there is something happening that they need your help with. If you know someone who is undergoing a number of these feelings and is showing a few of the signals, you need to reach out to them.

What Are The Risk Factor

A person pain can be caused by any situation in life. They handle it depends on their ability and the individual they are brought by these scenarios. Bear in mind, the issues of everyone are BIG to them. These are:

  • Death of a Relative, friend, or acquaintance
  • Breakup of a connection
  • Addictions
  • Identification of a mental or physical illness
  • Abuse
  • Rejection from family, friends, and/or peers
  • A major, recent loss of a relationship, job, finances and/or self-identity
  • Formation of sexual identity
  • A personally traumatic event

Any situation as being painful in life which the individual sees can lead to thoughts of suicide.
